The camping tickets have arrived! Now I just hope the actual festival tickets to Werchter will show up here also. At least the accomodation (the extreme 39!) has been sorted through eBay. Presenting "casa inglesa":

Faust

Every now and then, you get to experience something special... and special is probably the understatement of the year when describing Faust, the latest production of Punchdrunk.
Because of some magic in scoring last minute tickets, I was able to be immersed in it on Friday night in one of the old warehouse buildings in Wapping, close to where I live. Sadly, they will knock down the building after the production leaves, but at least they got to use it for free for this extraordinary "play".

I'll leave it up to the experts to give you the normal reviews, but I can only share their opinion when they describe it as brilliant. Imagine running around in a dark 5-story warehouse while wearing a mask, trying to follow the actors, finding scenes of the story, getting a drink from Mephistopheles, walking through an abandoned library, bumping into good and bad angels, ...
Then imagine the perfect music to set the scenes and smells that make you feel like you are actually in a movie. I have never been to a performance like this before, but it absolutely took my breath away...

And when they, after the last scene, have an excellent band playing in the "Blues"-bar that is actually part of the decor, and everybody is dancing and drinking, I can only think of trying to find more tickets to go again. It's also very cool indeed when your company knows the actors and you can stay and have fun with the cast and crew until the early hours... And yes, the hairband of Felix, the director probably was the coolest prop of the entire evening...

Date

Deze avond heb ik een heuse, echte date! Dit is echt de eerste keer dat ik hier in Londen door iemand die ik compleet niet ken (buiten 5 minuten cafe-babbel), ben uitgevraagd om iets te gaan eten en drinken. Spannend! Want op het eerste zicht ziet het er echt wel ok uit (klopt nu heel hard op hout).

Ik vraag me al de hele dag af (het is zondag en ik heb eens een dagje niets te doen) of de dag waarop mannen je mee uitvragen een of ander teken aan de wand is. Zo van
Maandag: Tja, ik heb toch helemaal niks anders te doen, dus moet ik ook niet echt iets verzettien in mijn agenda, dus kan ik wel met je uitgaan.
Dindag/Woensdag: Ik wil al wel eens een UEFA-cup of Champions league match missen en iets gaan drinken met jou in plaats van met mijn mates voor het scherm te hangen.
Donderdag: Goh, jou zie ik wel zitten want in plaats van met de collega's de hele avond in de pub pints te hijsen, wil ik wel liever met jou iets gaan eten en misschien drinken.
Vrijdag/zaterdag: voor jou, niks dan het beste. Ik wil gezien worden met jou en we gaan de hele nacht dansen en we zien wel waar het eindigt...

Maar wat betekent zondag dan??? Mmmm... Iemand?

Politically correct x-mas card

Kerstkaarten maken voor een internationaal bedrijf is nooit fun. De brand managers en grote bazen willen een uniforme kaart voor het bedrijf en dan wil elk land zijn eigen versie. Waarom? Wel, in Amerika mag je geen prettige kerst wensen, want dat is te Christelijk. Ook een gelukkig Nieuwjaar wensen doe je niet, in Amerika zeg je enkel "Seasonal Greetings" of "Happy Holidays". Het eerste is al wat formeler dan het tweede. In Engeland daarentegen mag er nooit een Kerstkaart buitengaan zonder Merry Christmas erop, anders heeft het toch geen zin? Blanco kaarten zijn ook not done, want dat is goedkoop (universele reactie). In Europa moet je dan weer best de verschillende talen op je kaart hebben staan en liefst vanal nog verschillende versies voor elk land (wat duur kan oplopen). En In china is het helemaal nog geen Nieuwjaar. En waarom dan geen Diwali-kaarten voor India, vroeger op het jaar... Dus, trust me... elk jaar is het een gezever en gezaag, bij elk bedrijf dat ik al gewerkt heb.

Dan vond ik deze email die S.T. kreeg van zijn baas nog het beste:

Elfentwintig

Dank u lieve mutti en paps voor de mooie armband, de Humo en andere tijdschriften. Dank u lieve broer voor de extra geheugenkaart voor mijn PC en de DVDs van Entourage en Desperate Housewifes. (Het is echt heel fijn om cadeautjes via de post te krijgen!)
Dank u lieve vrienden en familie voor de vele sms'jes, telefoontjes en e-mails. Fijn dat jullie er allemaal aan gedacht hebben. Helaas geen megaparty zoals verleden jaar, maar kom gerust langs en ik trakteer u een pint in het Duvel-cafe hier in de straat!

Lichamen

Ik zie trouwens net dat ze op dezelfde locatie (South Street Seaport) op dit moment ook de felbesproken tentoonstelling Bodies hebben. Je weet wel, met al die s(tukken van) echte lichamen, om je een blik te laten werpen op de werking van je body. Uit een blijkbaar goed ingelicht bron heb ik ook vernomen dat het bijna allemaal Aziatische mannenlichamen zijn... Op de site wordt dat ook bevestigd:

Die laatste woorden... Zouden ze ervoor betaald hebben? Zouden ze in China koosjer genoeg zijn om enkel donor-lichamen te geven? Zijn de mensen allemaal een "natuurlijke" dood gestorven? Mmm, ik denk dat ik misschien toch eens eerst naar deze tentoonstelling ga kijken. Maar dat kan ik ook in Londen doen...

Niels

Voor de mensen die morgen nog naar Pukkelpop gaan, ga zeker eens kijken naar Fence. En doe Niels de groetjes van mij. En Ax ook, die staat zeker ergens in the crowd...
Ik denk dat Niels er vandaag ook al stond met The Shovels. Als iemand ze gezien heeft, laat eens weten hoe het was?

Aanrader

Voor deze avond: Genk on stage. Met om 21.15h Absynthe minded op het kerkplein en om 22.45h Fence in de Stationsstraat. En daarnaast voor de liefhebbers ook nog: The Magical Flying Thunderbirds, Les Truttes, Mint, Krezip en natuurlijk Belle Perez...

En dat allemaal gratis en voor niets.

De awards zijn uitgereikt, het feestje is gedaan, de zaal (8000 m2) is terug leeg, zelfs gekuist... en nu eindelijk slapen want dat is alweer een tijdje geleden...

Wat een dikke-nekken, arty-farty, m'as-tu vu-publiek in de reclamewereld... Jakkes
