English?

Mmmm, more and more of my (international) friends keep asking me why I'm not writing in English on my blog. They see their pictures, they recognize the scenes, but they have no clue what I'm talking about. And knowing me, they fear about what I'm telling my Dutch-speaking friends and family about them. E.g. Victoria (pics below, the one on the right) asked (no, begged) me to be featured on my blog (and I would never even think of saying no), but then she worried about not being able to read what I was saying about her. Like I would ever dare to say anything negative about this foxy lady. For some reason she didn't believe this...

So I'm kind of in a dilemma... continue in Dutch, because that is my native language and I should be better in expressing myself in it; or switch to English so all my friends can read my rantings??? Or maybe both, depending on the subject or my mood?  Anyone? Thoughts? Reactions? Leave them in the comments below.

You know how I think about it ... I've been writing online for over six years now. In english. Even though I speak dutch as you. Even when some other bloggers say I should switch. But as you I have some foreign readers so I'm sticking with english. Might make sense if you just do both ... dutch for friends and family ... english for the americans and brits.

in het nederlands kan jij je beter uitdrukken ,of wel moet je twee blogs maken één in het engels en één in het nederlands dan is iedereen te vrede ,maar dan is het wel meer werk

Nederlands of Engels, het maakt niet uit. Ik lees hem in beide talen. Engels is misschien beter, dan heeft een internationalere aantrekkingskracht. En dan komen er ook comments van uw internationale vrienden. Zo leren we Claudia ook kennen vanuit een ander oogpunt.

Hangt van je doelgroep af he. Analyseer je behoeftes, stel je doelen, ga na wat de beste manieren zijn om die/hen te bereiken. Huur desnoods een consultant in om dit alles in een mooi rapportje te gieten :)

Ik heb geen voorkeur,
maar soms heb ik toch de indruk dat Engels juist een rijkere taal is om jezelf in uit te drukken...
Vooral voor sfeerwoorden of emoties, zoals bv. "It was a gloomy night." : hoe vertaal je dat ?
Een donkere nacht ?
Een schemerachtige nacht ?
Een bedrukte nacht ?
Een sombere nacht ?
Al deze vertalingen vind ik ontoereikend. "Gloomy" geeft je een gevoel, terwijl de nederlandse adjectieven eerder technisch overkomen...
But then again, misschien is mijn Nederlands gewoon niet zo goed. :-)

Of je kan je Engelstalige vrienden naar Babelfish verwijzen ! Ik heb het net es geprobeerd met je blog. Lachen ! Dan krijg je van deze dingen :

I think you should cater to your audience and if this audience is multilingual than you should choose the language that most people understand. In this case, that's obviously english.

Waarom altijd alles in het Engels? We moeten trots zijn op onze "eigen" taal! Natuurlijk kan je een tweetalige blog maken, maar dat gaat wel erg onduidelijk worden denk ik.
