And it's a first edition!

So the boyfriend has connections... :-) He also does the artwork for this author's books. Cool, no?

Port Eliot

Besides the Boekenbeurs in Antwerp, I really haven't been to any book events ever. And honestly, I've never been really interested in any, especially after visiting that same Boekenbeurs were too many people try to get signatures from too many wanabees. Although I have to say, I'm still quite happy with my two personally signed Jef Geeraerts books.
If you know me somewhat well, you know that I'm a book freak. I still average about one book a week and I still buy most of the books I read. My "wall" of books is getting bigger and bigger and more unstable every month. (Another good reason to move and get my book case over to the UK).

This weekend, I'm going to my first ever Literature Fest: The Port Eliot Litfest. Looking at the pictures from last year, it's going to be a fun weekend. Let's just hope for some good weather... After reading the programme, I'm definitely doing these two things!

Lezen en zo

Those of you who know me pretty well, know I have an irrepressible need to read at least one book per week, preferably two. I'm a sucker for the typical murder/spy/mystery paperbacks (easy to travel with) and have quite a collection of Cornwells , Pattersons, Koontz's, Ludlums (favorite), Kings etc. Every now and then, I try to read a "real" novel and every now and then, I fall in love with those books.

"Het verdriet van Belgie" is not one of them since I still haven't made it past page 50. But in the last two weeks, both "La Sombra del viento (Shadow of the wind)" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini left a deep impression on me. The first one gave me a glimpse of the city I studied in during a completely different time. It's sometimes hard to believe that Barcelona (and Spain)changed so much in so little time. "The Kite Runner" helped me understand the history of Afganistan and is just such a beautiful and ugly story...

So, if you don't know what to do or what to read, pick one of these up and let me know if you like them.

Poker vs BJ

Iemand moet de Standaard eens het verschil uitleggen tussen Poker en Black Jack. Als volleerd Texas Hold'em professional en 21'en freak wil ik dat wel eens met plezier doen.

Goed boek trouwens, Bringing down the House. Ben Mezrich's (blog) laatste boek over hetzelfde onderwerp heeft nog spectaculairdere technieken... Begin al maar terug die wiskunde boven te halen :-)

Hello everybody

Ik sta in de Dag Allemaal van deze week. Gelukkig met een foto van Pieter en niet van VT4. Toch vreemd hoe een journalist je antwoorden kan kleuren.
Bijvoorbeeld: tijdens het interview aan de telefoon:
Journalist: "Wat vind je zelf je sterkste kant"
Ik: "Ik denk het feit dat ik vrij makkelijk kan relativeren. Zo kon ik samen met Bruno zware discussies hebben over een opdracht, maar 5 minuten later stonden we in de living te dansen en te swingen, omdat we allebei perfect de lijn konden trekken tussen het werk en de privé-zaken. "

Uiteindelijk in de Dag Allemaal: tja, lees maar hé... (Bruno zal dat wel kunnen relativeren hé)

De Helaasheid...

... der dingen wordt verfilmd. Door dezelfde mens van Steve & Sky. Nog 20 blz en ik heb het boek uit. Grappig, mooi en lelijk tegelijkertijd. Wil die film best zien.
