Football racism

Kuddos for Onyewu to take this further. If it turns out that that Anderlecht player indeed called him a dirty monkey several times in the first playoff of this year's title fight, then Van Damme should be brought to justice. I don't know the details of the anti-racism law in Belgium, but I really do hope that he can be prosecuted.
I'm sick and tired of hearing the argument that in football things get yelled at each other to intimidate the other player. There is no excuse, NO EXCUSE for using racial slurs in any game. And if you do use it, then be prepared for the consequences. Too many talented players have just swallowed their pride and listened to the abuse for years. I hope that more victims of this blatant racism fight back with every weapon the legal system offers them. Onyewu, I think you are a hero.

And no, this has nothing to do with my everlasting love for the team of Liege. It just makes me more proud that it's one of the Rouches that fights back.

Oh, and WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO, we won the championship again!!!!

Fenomenale

In case you didn't know yet, I like football. A lot. And Standard de Liege is my team. They are without a doubt playing one of their best seasons in the last 25 years; even someone who is not a fan has to admit that. Yesterday evening, they played the second game in the quarter finals of the Cofidis Cup. They lost the first game to Cercle Bruges with a devastating score of 4-1, so chances of making it to the semi-finals were slim. But they did it anyway! 0-0 after the first half didn't seem very promising, but they managed to score 4 times in the second half (should've been 6 actually...)! So me = happy! :-)

Now just no more losing in the championship and we might maybe (hope, hope, touch wood...) pull in the double this year!

I have a funny feeling that my tickets for Standard-Anderlecht in April might be for a preview to this year's cup final...

Great goals

Daarstraks via De Standaard terecht gekomen op 101 great goals, een voetbaljunkie site. Omdat ze blijkbaar problemen hebben met de premiere league (omdat ze links zetten naar YouTube-beelden die eigenlijk eigendom zijn van tv-networks en zo), dacht ik mmm, waarom geen link doorsturen naar die mannen van dat prachtige Standard Luik-doelpunt van Tchite tegen Genk van vorig seizoen. Heb dat dan maar gedaan... Antwoord was:

(Ik heb sinds ik naar Londen verhuisd ben geen seconde voetbal meer gekeken, dus for all I know heeft Genk Standard dik verslagen dit seizoen... 't Blijft nog altijd een prachtige goal... en die gast speelt nu zeker bij Anderlecht!!! Mmmm....)

Oogsnoep

Deze morgen,  na een uurtje vertraging eindelijk geland op London City airport. Eindelijk weer thuis! Terwijl ik stond te wachten op mijn bagage zag ik opeens deze gast... en deze... en deze... en jaja, ook deze (jam jam jam). Allemaal mooi in hetzelfde pak met een sporttas over hun schouders gegooid. een beetje verder stond de ganse ploeg. Allemaal met de haartjes gestyled alsof ze drie uur voor de spiegel gestaan hadden deze morgen. Waarom kan ik er nooit eens zo een beetje deftig uitzien na een vlucht? Bij mij heerst meestal het gevoel van plakkerigheid...

Anyway, blijkbaar speelt hun ploeg morgenavond tegen Chelsea voor de Champions League. Er zijn zelfs nog tickets te koop. Ik vond het alleszins helemaal niet meer erg van die vertraging... lonk, lonk...

WC 2006

De wereldbeker voetbal komt dichterbij. En wat moet ik dan altijd hartelijk lachen met de onderlinge spanning tussen de Nederlanders en de Duitsers. Ja, tussen de Belgen en de Nederlanders is (was, in dit geval) er ook altijd een zekere spanning, maar altijd grappig en sportief. Maar tussen de Duitsers en de Nederlanders zit het nog diep... heel diep.
En ook op het web vind je die spanning terug. Zo was er in 2002 (toen Nederland niet geselecteerd was) deze site: Ihr seid nicht dabei van de Duitsers. En nu is er de wraak van de Nederlanders: Scheisse, die Holländer sind dabei.

Zelfs op de Nederlandse voetbalbondwebsite spotten ze er een beetje mee. Ze geven er nu Duitse les voor de Nederlandse supporters die naar het WK afzakken. (via de Standaard). Zo staat er bij gespreksonderwerpen hetvolgende:

Nederlands: Rudi Carrell.
Duits: Rudi Carrell. Oh ja... en allemaal meeduimen dat Anderlecht verliest dit weekend en Standaard wint! (Il est vraiment fénoménallalalalala)
